Fixing meals has become a complicated task, when the family comes from multicultural heritages. I was born and raised in the north, mid Michigan, middle of the mitten.
We grew up on a farm, started out as a dairy, later switching to pigs, then to a cash crop farm. Our meals were often centered around meat, potatoes, and a vegetable, not a lot of variations from this menu. Any ethnic food came from visits to friends or to restaurants. But my taste buds have traveled to many other parts of the country and cultures. My first taste of Mexican food came from a friends family, fresh tortillas, sausage, eggs made a great breakfast taco with a little hot sauce and jalapenos. As I grew older and married between work and the economy I moved from the mitten to several other areas of our country, first I went to Oklahoma, added fried catfish and barbecue. My spouse was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. Her family from what I understand had a restaurant of some sort.
